ESPN’s Chris Mortensen said on “Sunday NFL Countdown” that sources within the Bengals organization told him that Johnson could be traded in the offseason.

Now that is the popular topic of discussion in the Queen City.
Recently, Mark Curnutte wrote on his blog - Chad Johnson’s reaction in the parking lot.
“There is always truth in something,” he said.
You heard the trade rumor. Does that bother you?
“There’s always truth to something,” he said.
How much truth?
“That’s the key.”
Johnson also said he would not be surprised if he were traded because “this is a dirty business.”
Curnutte and many Bengal fans share the same opinion that trading Chad Johnson would be a bad idea. The reasoning has to do with the team’s receiving production. He writes that without Johnson, T.J. Houshmandzadeh numbers will drop and that Chris Henry cannot be relied on.
Personally, I don’t agree.
While it should hurt the passing game, but don’t you think the Bengals could sign a capable wide receiver through free agency?
Trading Chad Johnson could give the Bengals a lot in return.
How about a star WR for an opposing team’s star linebacker?
That should help the team.
I would even take a pile of draft picks. If the deal is right, why not trade Chad Johnson?
Sure he is a great player, but if the Bengals could get a great defensive player in return, wouldn’t be stupid not to trade him?

I don’t know. I would be sad to see Chad Johnson go. He played a major role in the upswing of ‘05 and ‘06 seasons. He has a great character and yeah he is selfish and greedy. And something is probably going with him and Marvin on a personal level. But pride aside, I would miss him and all his crazy antics (although we haven’t seen much this seacon). And I would hate to see him play for another team as to me he is part of who the Bengals are. I guess it depends on who it is we trade him for…but it would be weird. Would he then be known as Ocho Cautro or something? I don’t know I’m not convinced it would do us that much good even if we can trade him for Zeus.
PS. Linebackers aren’t as fun to watch on TV. What about the commercialization we will loose on letting Chad go? Can the franchise afford that? Especially coming off this season?
Isn’t this what the Patriots do every offseason?

I thought you had wrote recently that you hated the commercialization of Chad Johnson. You wrote that the commercials and billboards made you sick - and you live far from Cincinnati. Personally, I like to watch linebackers because if you see them on TV then you know that they are making a good play. If you see Chad on TV it might mean that someone is sweating from the armpits or he is defending himself on ESPN.
Archdeacon of the Dayton Daily News agrees with Courtney…check out his article from Wednesday 10/24. There are alot of other Bengal’s that need the boot before we let go of Chad.
