Vince Young defends Roby’s honor in practice
The Cincinnati Bengals continue to sign new players as the season continues to disappoint.
This week, it’s wide receiver Courtney Roby. Above you can see he was getting beat up in training camp by his own teammates of the Tennessee Titans.
Prior to that, Roby played for Indiana University. Roby holds the school’s all-time record for career receptions and yards with 170 catches and 2,524 yards. Also he returned 28 kickoffs for 567 yards.
Professionally, Roby was drafted in the third round of the 2005 NFL Draft. As a rookie, he started six games and finished with 21 receptions for 289 yards and had a touchdown. He also returned 22 kickoffs for 495 yards.
Last year, his numbers went down, but he continued his special team role. He had three tackles in ‘05 and four in ‘06.
The Bengals had to make this move because they put Tab Perry on the injured reserve, ending his season.
In another recent move this week, the Bengals placed defensive back Ethan Kilmer on the injured reserve.
After the signing of Roby, the Bengals have an open roster spot. Bengal fans are hoping that spot will be filled by running back Chris Perry, who has been doing some work on the side at practice this week. Perry will be eligible to play in next week’s game against Pittsburgh.
Roby is the cousin of former NFL punter Reggie Roby. Reggie Roby played most of his career in Miami and passed away in 2005.
