Shaun Rogers has just gone from Santa Claus to Fat Bastard.
According to the Detroit Free Press Shaun Rogers has actually been traded to the Cleveland Browns.
According to the source, the Lions had confirmed the previous deal (Cincinnati sends a third and a fifth for Rogers) with the Bengals, but Cincinnati failed to confirm it.
The trade didn’t go through and the Brownies sent cornerback Leigh “Ocho Cinco Stopper” Bodden and a third-round pick to the Lions.
No one seems clear on how the deal unraveled, according to Cincinnati Enquirer bengals beat writer Mark Curnutte “Theories ranged late tonight (last night) from the league stepping in because the trade violated a salary-cap rule to one that the trade was never reported to the NFL office, leaving the Lions free to negotiate another deal with another team. Another explanation was faulty language in the trade forced the NFL to void it.”
However, it seems to me that it was as simple as Detroit receiving a better offer once the trade to Cincinnati was announced. Hopefully we will find out more about what really happened because something stinks!
Rogers will now join Corey Williams, who was also acquired this offseason, on the Cleveland defensive line.
As expected Justin Smith has agreed to sign with the San Francisco 49ers.
According to ESPN.com’s Michael Smith, who misspelled Francisco as “Franciso”, the 49ers and Smith agreed to a six-year deal worth $45 million.
Personally, I wasn’t upset the Bengals let Smith and Williams sign outrageous contracts with other teams.
One of the reasons that I wasn’t upset was because of the Rogers’ trade.
However, on the bright side, Rogers has had his share of problems.
I know that might be nitpicking, but the guy is a freakin’ Brownie, so we have to hate the fat bastard.
Rumor: I heard that the Bengals are getting closer to re-signing Landon Johnson. Defensive end Antwan Odom is scheduled to visit the Cincinnati Bengals on Sunday. It will be Odom’s first visit during the free-agency period. Supposedly the Tennessee Titans were trying to re-sign the player leading up to Thursday’s dealdine, but the two sides couldn’t agree on a long-term deal.

So with Smith gone will this put us on the market for 2 DE’s maybe Odom and picking on up in the draft?
Honestly, I think that the bengals have to looking at DTs Dorsey and Ellis in the draft. Many mock drafts don’t have either one of those being there, so DE could be the answer or safety Kenny Phillips. Signing Odom would help. The Bengals also re-signed Jonathan Fanene to a three-year deal worth $4.5 million, so they have confidence in him - we will see - stay tuned

The Brownies and Donte Stallworth agree to a seven-year deal. More to come on Cleveland’s already amazing offseason.
Yahoo sports is reporting that Jason Taylor will be gone from Miami b-4 the draft. You think the Bengals will be interested?
It looks like he is going nowhere http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=3273442
It would be hard to believe that the Bengals would be able to pull off a move like that.
You would think that he would go to New England, Dallas or some other major market contender.

The “Brownies” are lining up the stars for a winning constellation both on the offensive and defensive hemisphere. I am seeing a dog pound ride to the super bowl in the near future! As usual, the Bengals continue to collapse on all fronts including the front office! With the free agency in play all that is left for the Bengals are black holes. Is there no hope for the Bengals in ‘08-’09?
Agree with Dragon Lady. After a hugely disappointing 2007, the Cincinnati Bengals seem ready to take a step back, closer to the AFC cellar that they occupied for so long. I hope they have a few tricks up their sleeves to spend some of the salary cap dollars on a few key players, but I have little confidence in the Brown family right now. They’re probably going to come somewhat close to selling out PBS with the sub-par product they have now, that they likely won’t worry about pushing up against the salary cap to fill that last few thousand seats. It’s a shame.
There is always hope.
Unfortunately, that is all we (as fans) have
sorry mcbin - I have to moderate everyone’s first comment, now that you have left a message it won’t send any future ones to moderation - it should appear right away - so please comment as much as you want
I heard that the Saints cut Brian Simmons - I know that isn’t the big free agent splash everyone is hoping for, but he could fill in nicely as part of our linebacking rotation.
bengals fans have 2 things– hope and… disappointment.
it seems as if every time a bengal fan’s hopes are up… mike brown + the bengal front office pull a string and we’re all down again… we’re all toys in their money-making game (although i have no idea if they really are profiting…)
