Hey Bobbie! Bengals bring back captain

by The Stripe on April 5, 2010

The Cincinnati Bengals made another solid move when it re-signed big Bobbie Williams. The contract is for two years according to numerous sources.

To be honest, the Bengals would have a big hole on the right side if they had decided to let him sign elsewhere.

According to Bengals.com, Williams’ agent Tony Agnone said that the Bengals were not the only team in the sweepstakes.

“There was only one team he would have left for and there was another team that wanted to be considered,” Agnone, who didn’t want to be specific, told Bengals.com. “This is where he wanted to be all along. He’s been a captain here, the guys like him and he likes them. Angie (his wife) and Bobbie felt comfortable enough with the security that they wanted to remain in the community.”

In my opinion, this wasn’t just a solid move by the Bengals, but a move that had to made. However, this doesn’t mean that guard shouldn’t be addressed in the draft. Williams will be 34 this September and could be near the end of his NFL career.

NFL Preseason: I also recently received an email on the NFL preseason from the NFL. I meant to post it earlier and plan on sharing the information provided by the NFL more often. I do appreciate that this league recognizes its bloggers as valuable resources.

Anyways, according to the release, there are 11 nationally televised preseason football games in 2010 (not counting the NFL Network). Two of those games will involve the Cincinnati Bengals. On Aug. 8 the Bengals will kickoff the NFL preseason with a matchup against the Dallas Cowboys in Canton, Ohio, in the Hall of Fame game (NBC, 8 p.m.). The Bengals will also be on FOX Aug. 20 at 8 p.m. in a home game against Philadelphia.

The full Bengals preseason schedule:

Aug. 8 – Cincinnati vs. Dallas (NBC at 8 p.m.)
Aug. 12-16 – Denver at Cincinnati (TBA)
Aug. 20 – Philadelphia at Cincinnati (FOX at 8 p.m.)
Aug. 26-29 – Cincinnati at Buffalo (TBA)
Sept. 2-3 – Cincinnati at Indianapolis (TBA)
