Ravens to sign Shayne Graham

by The Stripe on June 1, 2010

What is worse, the Cincinnati Bengals keeping Shayne Graham or seeing one of their AFC North rivals sign him?

Either way, the majority of Cincinnati fans have seen enough of Graham. A 39-yard field goal that Graham pulled wide right with 12 seconds to go in the season finale against Pittsburgh kept the Bengals out of the playoffs in 2006. Then there was last season’s wild card game against the New York Jets, where Graham missed two short field goals in the second half. One of those misses was a 28-yard field goal that sealed New York’s 24-14 playoff win.

Throughout his career in Cincinnati, Graham was consistent making 86.8 percent of his field goals as a Bengal. Furthermore, Graham is also the fourth most accurate kicker in NFL history. However, fans began to turn on him for his inability to make the clutch kick.

This offseason, the Bengals didn’t make a strong push to keep Graham. At the same time, the Bengals did make an offer. Now, according to ESPN.com, the Baltimore Ravens are closing in on a one-year deal with Shayne Graham.

Graham would have to beat out veteran Billy Cundiff for the kicking job in Baltimore.

The Bengals currently have kickers Dave Rayner and Mike Nugent on their roster.
