The Bengals desperately need to sign Cedric Benson after free agent Derrick Ward signed with Tampa Bay late on Monday night. Oh yeah, Houshmandzadeh has signed with Seattle, now money hungry wide receiver Laveranues Coles is visiting the Bengals in hopes to take the $$$ that was on the table for T.J.
BENGALSTRIPES – As previously expected T.J. Houshmandzadeh has officially left the Cincinnati Bengals. However, the Bengals did unexpectedly make a strong push for the Queen City’s fan favorite.
According to ESPN, who broke the story, Houshmandzadeh signed a five-year deal worth $40 million.
It appears that Seattle made the strongest offer and personally I can’t fault Housh for taking the money. I know the headline sounds pretty harsh, but I honestly don’t feel that he is worth all that money.
Ward signs with Bucs: ESPN.com’s Pat Yasinskas reported late Monday night that running back Derrick Ward has signed with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
According to the Pewter Report the contract is for four years and worth $17 million. Again, the Bengals may have not wanted to offer that large of a contract to a player that has had injury problems and has yet to carry the load as a feature back.
Whatever your opinion is, you better get Cedric Benson on the phone.
Coles coming to town: According to Bengals.com Laveranues Coles will pay Cincinnati a visit on Tuesday.
It has been report by numerous sources that Coles is asking for $6 million a season. Those sources and myself feel that is a ridiculous amount to offer Coles.
If the team can cut that amount in half and sign Benson with the other half then the Bengals will have signed two starters for the price of one.
If they can do that there might be a good amount left over to make another splash in free agency.
Fullback coming to visit, Harris signs: Fullback John Kuhn is on his way to Cincinnati for a visit. Kuhn started three games for the Green Bay Packers last season.
In other news, defensive tackle Orien Harris re-signed with the Bengals. Harris finally earned some playing time with the Bengals after stints in Pittsburgh, Cleveland and New Orleans the previous three seasons.
The Jamacian born Harris provides the Bengals with much needed depth at DT.
