Bengals sign Dezmon Briscoe

The Cincinnati Bengals signed its first 2010 NFL draft pick in Kansas wide receiver Dezmon Briscoe.

According to the Cincinnati Enquirer’s Bengals beat man Joe Reedy, the deal is worth four years. According to the Bengal scribe, Briscoe’s contract is worth “$1.8925 million ($1.79 million base, $102,500 signing bonus). Depending on if certain incentives are hit in two of the first three years of the contract, the total value could escalate to $2,625,500.”

Briscoe missed most of the offseason workouts due to injury.

Even though he is extremely talented, the sixth-round selection could have trouble making the 2010 active roster.

Wide receivers
85 Chad Ochocinco WR 6-1 192 1/9/1978 Oregon State
81 Antonio Bryant WR 6-1 205 3/9/1981 Pittsburgh
11 Jordan Shipley WR/PR 5-11 193 12/23/1985 Texas
87 Andre Caldwell WR 6-0 204 4/15/1985 Florida
12 Quan Cosby WR/PR 5-9 191 12/23/1982 Texas
88 Dezmon Briscoe WR 6-2 207 8/14/1989 Kansas
89 Jerome Simpson WR 6-2 195 2/4/1986 Coastal Carolina
18 Matt Jones WR 6-6 218 4/22/1983 Arkansas
14 Maurice Purify WR 6-2 224 1/17/1986 Nebraska
84 Freddie Brown WR 6/24/1986 6-3 215 Utah

As of right now, four wide receivers, Chad Ochocino, Antonio Bryant, Jordan Shipley and Andre Caldwell appear to be locks to make the roster.

That means Briscoe will be fighting among five others for two spots. Bengalstripes.com believes that Cosby, Briscoe, Simpson and Jones have better odds of making the team than Brown and Purify. If Briscoe doesn’t make the team, he could be signed to the practice squad. However, the rookie wideout would likely be signed by another team if he performs well in the preseason.
