Bengals put down Bears 45-10

On a camping trip, when I was a much younger Stripe, a black bear rummaged through our campsite in search of food. The bear had no regard to our personal space and when a wild animal does that, at a national park, you make a phone call and the bear is put down.

The story is fitting today, as the Chicago fans invaded our tailgates and our stadium without an ounce of respect and full of yuppie-like arrogance that is only outdone by the worst fans in sports – Cubs fans.

Prior to the game, Bears fans drank and yelled their fight song – many of which didn’t actually know the words, but drunkenly bellowed out noises to give the impression that they knew nothing else.

One fan asked me if the Bengals had a fight song, I replied, “You will be hearing it when the Bengals score a touchdown.”

Those fans, if they chose to stick around, heard the Bengals fight song six times in a 45-10 beatdown this past Sunday afternoon.

Ex-Bear Cedric Benson rushed for 189 yards and a touchdown on 37 carries. Carson Palmer was nearly perfect, completing 20-of-24 for 233 yards and five touchdowns. Chad Ochocinco caught 10 passes for 118 yards and two touchdowns. The Cincinnati Bengals defense limited the Bears to 35 total rushing yards on 12 carries and intercepted Chicago quarterback Jay Cutler three times.

Just like in the story of the black bear that invaded the campground, the Chicago Bears were put down.

Who Dey!

It was a beautiful thing. I stood at half time cheering the Bengals off the field overjoyed and equally superstititous as I cautiously celebrated and eagerly prayed for a similar second half performance from our crew. And, they did not disappoint.

I won’t lie. I thoroughly enjoyed patting all the Chicago Bears’ fans on the back, telling them to have a nice drive home, but what brought me true joy, was seeing the pride and elation on the faces of so many Bengals fans who have weathered the last 2 stormy decades. After so many tough years, I just want to see the players and my fellow Bengals fans rewarded for their hard work and loyalty. It’s not easy being a Bengals player or fan. Cheering for a winning team is easy. It’s loving a losing team that shows true character. Beating the Bears in an anti-cardiac cat game just confirmed for the world what we, Bengals fans, already knew. Our winning streak isn’t a fluke. The Cincinnati Bengals are for real, and more importantly have real heart.

WHO DEY what a game. Unfortunately, I cannot remember much after Foschi’s TD in the second quarter to make it 21-0. I don’t know how to deal with this success!!
