The video above is in honor of a recent comment made by Tom Blogical.
I know talking about playoffs is absurd, but so is talking about the Bengals in general.
Even if the Bengals could make a run with an easy schedule, it would be a lost cause. A meaningless moral victory.
What would happen if Cincinnati faces the Patriots or Colts?
Personally, I don’t think the Steelers are good.
Should have the Bengals went for it on 4th-and-one in the first half?
Would have the Bengals stopped Hines Ward’s first touchdown if they had 11 players on the field?
Did Santonio Holmes really hold onto that deep ball early in the first quarter?
Did Kenny Watson really fumble?
How can the refs review two calls and blow both of them?
Again, does any of this matter?
The Bengals will still find a way to lose.
However, like Woody (right - comment in post below) says “Anyway I’ll still waste my Sunday afternoons watching them on the tube when they’re away and at PBS when they are at home…come rain or shine.” - all of us disgruntled Bengal fans will be forced through more disappointment and false hope.
It has been an annoying Bengal week in Cincinnati.
No one seems to be getting healthy, Chad Johnson is rumored to be traded and then the “righteous” Keyshawn Johnson invades the Bengals’ locker room to do a terrible interview (below) with Ocho Cinco.
Now to make matters worse, the Bengal fans will have to deal with about 20,000 Steeler fans at Paul Brown Stadium this Sunday.
First, Keyshawn is a jerk. He is more of a cancer than Chad is or ever will be. I don’t know how he can act so righteous just because he works for ESPN now.
Speaking of jerks, many Bengal fans will the Jerk hotline on their speed dial this Sunday. If you don’t know what that is - fans at Paul Brown Stadium can call (513) 381-JERK to report bad behavior at Bengal home games.
There will be fights, there will be foul language, there will be hair pulling, towel stealing and full-out chaos this Sunday. You might want to leave the kids at home.
The Bengals injury report is full of names once again. Offensive tackle Willie Anderson (knee), middle linebacker Ahmad Brooks (groin) and LB Caleb Miller (back) have been ruled out for this weekend’s game. Running back Rudi Johnson (hamstring) is doubtful. Wide receiver Antonio Chatman (hamstring) is questionable. Safety Dexter Jackson (hip), WR Chad Johnson (ankle) and LB Corey Mays (hamstring) are probable.
Running back Chris Perry has been working on the side and will not play. The Bengals will have to make a decision on Perry next week. If they don’t think he is ready then the team might be forced to put him on the injured reserve, ending his season. Hopefully, that won’t happen. If what I heard at the beginning of the season about Perry is true, then there is no reason to believe that will happen.
Defensive end Aaron Smith (knee) has been ruled out for the Steelers. S Ryan Clark (abdomen) and cornerback Bryant McFadden are doubtful. LB Clint Kriewaldt (shoulder) is probable.
Prediction
Steelers 35, Bengals 17
I picked the Bengals to win the first five weeks and they rewarded me by going 1-4. Last week, I picked the Jets - so I’m going for the bitter Bengal fan approach again - let’s hope that it pays off
Many us in Bengal World thought this day would never come - Chris Henry (right) has been cleared by the NFL to begin practicing with the Cincinnati Bengals.
Amazing!
Personally, I thought that Chris Henry would have gotten in trouble before his suspension has up, but somehow he stayed clean through the last few months.
According to Bengals.com, head coach Marvin Lewis said it’s an indication that “Chris is doing things correctly as far as guidelines go. That’s my interpretation of it.”
It is normal to have a stolen car found at your house.
It is normal for a Kenton County (Kentucky) Attorney [Gary Edmondson] to publicly [on WKRC-TV] say that Henry tested positive for opiates and that he will be forced to serve jail time.
Oh well, as a fan I feel terrible mentioning those things. Sadly, I didn’t have the courage to mention another thing I’ve heard about Henry, actually a couple of things. Personally, I want him to play.
All of the fans are dying to see Henry back on the playing field.
There is good news here, Henry doesn’t have to apply for reinstatement. According to Lewis and the team’s website, as long as he’s following the “guidelines”, it’s the club’s call once he serves the eight games.
The Bengals say he is following the guidelines, as far as they are concerned Henry is a saint. If I was part of the Bengals front office - I would have to agree.
BIG WILLIE OUT
In other news, the offensive tackle Willie Anderson (left) was ruled out of this Sunday’s game.
Anderson missed the entire Kansas City game and rested on numerous plays (even though no one in local media seemed to notice) in the Jets’ game.
Stacy Andrews will start in his place. Andrews is a solid backup and did a good job the last two weeks at tackle, but he is no ‘Big Willie.’
Normally, when the Bengals play the Steelers - Anderson would go up against defensive end Aaron Smith. Smith, who is a great player, is expected to miss Sunday’s game as well.
Other Steelers that didn’t participate in practice on Wednesday include Ryan Clark (abdomen), linebacker Clint Kriewaldt (shoulder), left tackle Marvel Smith (back) and wide receiver Hines Ward (knee).
For the Bengals, middle linebacker Ahmad Brooks has been ruled out for Sunday.
Dexter Jackson (hip), Rudi Johnson (hamstring) and Caleb Miller (back) didn’t participate in practice on Wednesday.
ESPN’s Chris Mortensen said on “Sunday NFL Countdown” that sources within the Bengals organization told him that Johnson could be traded in the offseason.
Now that is the popular topic of discussion in the Queen City.
Recently, Mark Curnutte wrote on his blog - Chad Johnson’s reaction in the parking lot.
“There is always truth in something,” he said.
You heard the trade rumor. Does that bother you?
“There’s always truth to something,” he said.
How much truth?
“That’s the key.”
Johnson also said he would not be surprised if he were traded because “this is a dirty business.”
Curnutte and many Bengal fans share the same opinion that trading Chad Johnson would be a bad idea. The reasoning has to do with the team’s receiving production. He writes that without Johnson, T.J. Houshmandzadeh numbers will drop and that Chris Henry cannot be relied on.
Personally, I don’t agree.
While it should hurt the passing game, but don’t you think the Bengals could sign a capable wide receiver through free agency?
Trading Chad Johnson could give the Bengals a lot in return.
How about a star WR for an opposing team’s star linebacker?
That should help the team.
I would even take a pile of draft picks. If the deal is right, why not trade Chad Johnson?
Sure he is a great player, but if the Bengals could get a great defensive player in return, wouldn’t be stupid not to trade him?
Bengal fans already started to head for the exits before cornerback Johnathan Joseph’s 42-yard interception return for a touchdown put the finishing touch on a 13-point come-from-behind 38-31 win over the New York Jets.
Personally, I thought that showed either a tremendous amount of confidence or a tremendous lack of respect by the fans.
How can anybody expect any NFL team, let alone the Cincinnati Bengals, to hold onto an eight-point lead with six minutes left in the fourth quarter.
Most of 60,000+ stayed to witness the interception and you will never be able to get any of the people (estimated 10 to 15 thousand) who left to ever admit it.
Down 20-10 and eventually 23-10 in the third quarter, the same Bengal fans showered, and deservingly so, their team with boos.
The boos eventually turned into cheers, when the Bengals scored 28 straight points in the second half.
Most of cheers, and deservingly so, praised the effort of veteran backup Kenny Watson (below - right). Watson finished with 130 yards on 31 carries and scored three touchdowns.
Backing up Watson was DeDe Dorsey, who flashed off his running skills as well. With the Bengals down 17-23, Dorsey received a handoff on a third-and-two. Jets safety Abram Elam had a clear path to stop the play in the backfield when Dorsey broke the tackle with a spin move. That impressive play led to the go-ahead touchdown.
Personally, I like the duo of Watson and Dorsey. Granted they were playing against the Jets, but I can’t be the only one who is a little disappointed that Rudi Johnson is supposed to play next week. Also, with Chris Perry expected back soon where does that leave Dorsey, who in my mind could develop into the Bengals’ best running back.
If you take out the two big plays to Jets’ wide receiver Laveranues Coles, the Bengals’ defense played a perfect game. After four consecutive games of allowing at least 100 yards to the opposing team’s starting running back, the Bengals held Thomas Jones to 67 yards on 19 carries. The defense also limited the Jets to only two (out of 11) third-down conversions.
At the start of the game, Levi Jones was booed as if he was a member of a terrorist group. Jones had given up 2.5 sacks in what seemed like 2.5 plays last Sunday to Chiefs’ defensive end Jared Allen. On consecutive third downs early in the first quarter, Jones was called for false start penalties. The first penalty pushed Cincinnati out of field-goal range and set up a 3rd and 10, where quarterback Carson Palmer was sacked, forcing a Bengals punt. Then Jones did it again, on a third-and-two. However, this time Jones pancaked the opposing defensive end, as Palmer had time to find T.J. Houshmandzadeh for the first down. That drive led to a 20-yard field goal by Shayne Graham, giving the Bengals their first points of the game.
Another player worth mentioning is wide receiver Glenn Holt, who drew two key pass interference calls and caught four passes for 54 yards.
Also, the crowd may have made a big play when Jets’ quarterback Chad Pennington wasn’t ready for a snap at midfield. At the time, the Bengals held a 24-23 lead. Domata Peko recovered the ball and Cincinnati capitalized with Watson’s third touchdown of the game.
The Bengals seem to be improving and the team’s confidence would be soaring if they could pull off a win this week against division-leading Pittsburgh.
Normally, I’m not very superstitious, but it is getting to that desperate time of year.
The Bengals are 1-4, anyone that is a fan of this organization didn’t expect that. Even most of the entire NFL world, wouldn’t have expected such a poor start.
So instead of giving my position-by-position breakdown and telling you why the Bengals are going to win - I’m going to do the opposite - I’m not going break anything down and I’m going to tell why the Bengals are going to lose even though the fan in me still believes that they are going to win.
The Jets are terrible, many so-called experts on ESPN are calling for quarterback Chad Pennington’s job. Funny, because after this week, those same so-called experts will be praising his effort against the Bengals.
We made Derek Anderson and Damon Huard look like a superstars. Pennington has become a popular pickup in fantasy leagues, even though he is on verge of losing his starting position.
Thomas Jones is a far better option at running back than the Bengals have. Also, linebacker Jonathan Vilma is better than Cincinnati’s entire defense.
I’m picking JETS 28, BENGALS 21
So, if you don’t want this happen. Make your Sunday routine different. If you normally come to the game early - come late. If you wear a certain jersey every game - wear something else or turn it inside out. Let’s get creative before our season is lost. Get a voodoo doll or something. WHO DEY!
The Cincinnati Bengals continue to sign new players as the season continues to disappoint.
This week, it’s wide receiver Courtney Roby. Above you can see he was getting beat up in training camp by his own teammates of the Tennessee Titans.
Prior to that, Roby played for Indiana University. Roby holds the school’s all-time record for career receptions and yards with 170 catches and 2,524 yards. Also he returned 28 kickoffs for 567 yards.
Professionally, Roby was drafted in the third round of the 2005 NFL Draft. As a rookie, he started six games and finished with 21 receptions for 289 yards and had a touchdown. He also returned 22 kickoffs for 495 yards.
Last year, his numbers went down, but he continued his special team role. He had three tackles in ‘05 and four in ‘06.
The Bengals had to make this move because they put Tab Perry on the injured reserve, ending his season.
In another recent move this week, the Bengals placed defensive back Ethan Kilmer on the injured reserve.
After the signing of Roby, the Bengals have an open roster spot. Bengal fans are hoping that spot will be filled by running back Chris Perry, who has been doing some work on the side at practice this week. Perry will be eligible to play in next week’s game against Pittsburgh.
Roby is the cousin of former NFL punter Reggie Roby. Reggie Roby played most of his career in Miami and passed away in 2005.
That video is for Woody, who said it was the best part of the game. At the time, I thought it was weird, but in retrospect I can’t argue.
Bengal Stripes’ No. 1 fan, Woody (below - right), has let his opinion known throughout the season.
While the rest of you go to Bengals.com, Woody takes his frustrations out on Bengal Stripes.
Honestly, I don’t know why anyone still reads Bengals.com. Somehow, the site remains positive even though the Bengals continue to stink up the Queen City.
Get angry! Get pissed Marvin!
We all know Woody is about to pop.
Here is a look at our No. 1 fan’s comments throughout the disapointing weeks.
Before Game One:
“Big! This game is monstrous/huge! It will undoubtedly set the tone for the entire season. See u at PBS.”
Bengals 27-20 over Ravens - Woody’s mood: Excited.
After Game Two, but right before game Three:
“It makes perfect sense for the bengals to beat Seatle…I’ve been watching this happen year after year…They beat the teams they shouldn’t and lose to the teams they shouldn’t…..dah”
Browns 51-45, over Bengals - Woody’s mood: Hopeful.
After Game Three:
“I’m starting to get really depressed, it’s getting very reminscent of the bungals of old…they seem to find different ways to lose every week…if they can’t pull out a win at home this monday i fear the season may be over before it gets started.”
Seahawks 24-21, over Bengals - Woody’s mood: Depressed.
After Game Four:
“Monday night’s game was an embarassement to the the entire Bengal nation…Ocho Stinko wants a superbowl ring! You got to be kidding, the only ring he should have is a nose ring so we could tie a fish line on it to guide him through his designated pass routes. Brady was toying with the Bengal defense; one series he would decide to run for a touchdown, the next he decided to throw the ball down the field for over 85 yards; if he wanted to he could have juggled the ball down the field. Do we really have to endure another decade of this crap…It’s time for Bengal fans to unite and demand better….I’m fed up and I’m not going to take it anymore…anyone want my season ticket?”
Patriots 34-13, over Bengals - Woody’s mood: Embarrassed.
After Game Five:
“These guys can talk the talk but even crawl the walk. I’m back to my 1990’s attitude…expect them to lose and be amused when they don’t. The only thing good about that game was the Jeep commercial when the wolf jumps in the back seat and eats the little singing birds…kind of reminded me of Gonzalez picking on Madieu Williams and D.Jones. What’s with 3rd and 3,2,1 and 1 foot, can’t this team get anything done? Now the offence stinks as bad as the defense. Deja vu 1990’s!!!”
Chiefs 27-20, over Bengals - Woody’s mood: Hopeless.
I expect more responses from Woody as the season continues to disappoint. In fact, consider this your invitation to do a post after Bengal loses - I want to get the classic bitter responses that Bengals.com and the rest of the local media is afraid to say.
* The Bengals got screwed on that challenge of the Antonio Chatman catch on third down early in the fourth quarter.
- or -
* The refs gave all the breaks to the Chiefs - juggling catches on the sidelines were always ruled complete - multiple Kansas City turnovers came back down to penalties and questionable challenges - and the refs would even help up Chief players.
All of that can be argued, but one thing that can’t be ignored - In the game, the Bengals converted only one of its 11 third downs.
Now, the team’s record drops to 1-4 this season. Dating back to the end of 2006, the Bengals have lost seven of their last eight games.
More facts:
The Chiefs stink.
- on offense -
Quarterback Damon Huard shouldn’t be starting on any NFL team. On Sunday he was perfect, like every quarterback is when they play the Bengals, completing 25 of 35 passes (71.4%) for 264 yards and threw two touchdowns without an interception (112.1 rating - season high)
Surprise! Surprise! Tight end Tony Gonzalez had his best game this season with nine receptions for 102 yards and two touchdowns.
Who in the world is Jeff Webb (below)? Before this Sunday’s game, the wide receiver had six catches for 83 yards in five games this season. This Sunday, Webb gained 78 yards on seven catches. Bengals cornerback Leon Hall continued his terrible rookie season. Hall couldn’t even cover Jeff Webb, imagine what he would’ve given up if he was playing someone good.
Running back Larry Johnson rushed for 105 yards in the first half.
- On defense -
Jared Allen ran around Levi Jones for 2.5 sacks. Jones looked like the worst offensive tackle in team history after being one of the best in recent years.
Excuse my language, but the shit has really hit the fan.
Speaking of profanities, Marvin Lewis’ tirade after the New England had little effect on the team. The Bengals are still selfish. Chad Johnson yells at the coach and then runs the wrong routes causing game-changing interceptions in consecutive games.
I’m thinking Marvin didn’t swear enough - in fact, after the Chiefs game he said, “What I told our football team in there just now was that I thought for the first time this football team played like a football team that second half of the game. Although we didn’t win the game today, I thought we made progress and showed some signs of a football team, not a bunch of individual guys.”
WHAT???!!!!!!!
You should more like hall-of-fame baseball manager Earl Weaver:
Warning this was a real show (on radio - animation was added for fun), but the language is horrible. However if you have a good sense of humor take a listen.
